Oak Park District 97 announced Jennifer Schemidt has resigned as principal of Beye Elementary School, 230 N. Cuyler Ave., effective June 30.
In her resignation letter, Schemidt announced she is leaving to take a position in Naperville Community Unit School District 203 starting with the 2021-22 school year.
“This past year has been highly rewarding in many ways and I have truly enjoyed and appreciated all of the opportunities for growth that have been provided,” Schemidt wrote. “I have truly enjoyed working so closely with our teachers, staff, leadership team, PTO, families and, of course, our amazing students for whom we do all things.”
The District 97 school board is expected to accept Schemidt’s resignation at its May 25 meeting.
Schemidt also praised the work of Beye’s teachers and staff, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I will be forever grateful for all that we have accomplished this year,” Schemidt wrote. “I am committed to supporting [my successor] as they transition into our school.”
In a statement, District 97 said it would immediately begin looking for a replacement principal of Beye Elementary School.
“Jennifer Schemidt has been a strong and capable leader for District 97 during one of the most challenging years we have faced as educators,” the statement read. “We want to thank her for her hard work, professionalism and steadfast commitment to the students of Beye Elementary School.”
District officials said the effort of identifying a replacement would include engagement with Beye students, staff and families.
