At a troubled Chicago liquor store, two security guards fired a barrage of bullets at a moving SUV, killing a 20-year-old woman. The guards said the SUV was headed right for them. But video footage showed they were never directly in the vehicle’s path.
In a jewelry store at Oakbrook Center, a security guard shot a man after he tried to break into a case of Rolex watches. The guard said the man came at him when he approached. But video showed the man was still on the floor at the time.
From shopping malls to violent street corners, security guards are meant to protect the public — but operate with little scrutiny.
