Thanks for coming here in Briggs's memory. I tried for a year to get access to a colorectal immunotherapy that might have saved her. Just four days before I lost her to medical errors, I got word a legendary broadcast journalist was going to appeal to the CEO of the drug company that had bought the rights.

In 2018, two of the 7 professors who've signed this petition were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their advances in immunotherapy. Another co-led development of an immunotherapy that helped put former president Jimmy Carter's stage IV melanoma into remission in 2015.

A contact of mine, the Chair of Neurosurgery at UCLA, has successfully used immunotherapy in the late Senator John McCain's type of brain cancer since 2003. It's the same kind that took President Biden's son Beau at 46.

In 2012, at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, a 7-year-old girl's leukemia was considered terminal after all other treatment failed. Three weeks after being treated with immunotherapy her tests showed no sign of cancer.

The tragedy of governments not prioritizing this new era is that it can at the same time significantly reduce hospitalizations, during which so many medical errors and infections occur. Medical errors alone have been estimated to be the third-leading cause of death in the U.S., over 250,000 people a year, with cancer patients particularly vulnerable.

In 2018, U.S. National Cancer Institute researchers used immunotherapy to save a 49-year-old woman with terminal breast cancer, a world 1st. The Defense Department's 2023 budget is $800 billion; the NCI's 7, no zeros.

Tens of billions are needed at this turning point. 600,000 Americans a year are dying of cancer. Globally, 27,000 women, children, and men a day; 10 million people every year, most after going through absolute misery, as Briggs did, with current treatment.

Join us in calling on Congress and governments worldwide to adequately fund research and development of the safest, most potentially curative immunotherapies in all cancers.
