Letters: Who’s responsible for a broken utility pole? And more from readers

Broken utility pole

I’ve tried to get someone to help with a pole on Route 50 West between Exit 29 Cape St. Claire and Exit 28 Bay Dale Drive.

In this photo you can see that the pole is attached to the lines but the lines are holding up the pole not the other way around. The bottom of the pole is gone. The lines, seem to be hanging low due to the weight of the pole top.

This utility pole needs repair.
This utility pole needs repair.

I emailed BGE, said that they can’t do anything and that I could contact the State of Maryland. Went to the website and got a number for the office in Anne Arundel County. I was told that state has control over numbered roads.

Anne Arundel patched me through to someone at the Maryland Department of Transportation, who told me to contact BGE. I told the agent that’s who I talked to first.

She said: “I’ll take care of it.”

I asked if I could send the photo and information to them or my name and number. She said that she had enough information.

I’m concerned that with the weather that we’ve been having this could become dangerous. My husband suggested sending The Capital an email because of your concerns for the community.

Brian Griffiths’ bridge

It’s well past time we stop pretending Brian Griffiths is a serious voice on Maryland issues and acknowledge what he is, a troll and low level shock jock with delusions of grandeur. His columns in The Capital are a mixture of conjecture, petty insults, and statements about his feelings.

The limited facts he cites are so removed from context they become useless. His firearm column in The Capital was corrected by Phoenix Geimer days later. His commentary on the housing Initiative is entirely hyperbole.

His recent bridge column is just conspiracies about elites, as if some blogger is a man of the people (The Capital, Sept. 6). They’re silly.

His Red Maryland site is even more nonsensical. Silly rantings about bike supremacy, attacking professors by claiming they want violent revolution, saying other members of the media are the other party, or calling Democrats members of a death cult.

His “research” is either referencing his own work in the past, dramatic misinterpretation of other’s opinion pieces, citing news grifters with long histories of lying, or just stating his own feelings. It’s silly.

I understand the necessity of The Capital to offer a range of views, it’s healthy for a community to exchange ideas with each other. But Griffiths’ opinions bring nothing serious to the conversation, just noise. They’re light on facts and heavy on hysterics, written with the nuance of an edgy 16 year old.

There are conservative voices The Capital can find that are serious, because Brian’s certainly isn’t. It’s a silly one.
