Harry Styles Scores First No. 1 on This Chart With ‘As It Was’

"As It Was" isn't just a Hot 100 topper.

For the first time, Harry Styles is No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart.

“As It Was,” the lead single from Styles’ upcoming third solo album Harry’s House, debuts at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs ranking dated April 16.

In the April 1-7 tracking week, “Was” earned 43.8 million official U.S. streams, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. That’s after it accumulated 3 million streams in just five hours of availability on March 31.

“Was” isn’t just Styles’ first Streaming Songs ruler – it’s also his first top 10. His previous best, “Watermelon Sugar,” peaked at No. 12 in July 2020.

Styles is the second member of One Direction past or present to reach No. 1 on Streaming Songs since its 2013 inception. The other, Zayn, debuted at No. 1 with “Pillowtalk” in February 2016. One Direction itself rose as high as No. 2 on the survey with “Best Song Ever” in August 2013.

The 43.8 million week for “Was” is the biggest for any non-holiday song in 2022, surpassing Encanto‘s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” which topped out at 37.6 million streams toward the Feb. 12 charts. “Was” boasts the best week for any song since Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” accumulated 47.5 million toward the Jan. 1 rankings, and it’s the best for a non-holiday track since Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version),” with 54.4 million, in November 2021.

Concurrently, as previously reported, “Was” debuts at No. 1 on the multi-metric Billboard Hot 100, Styles’ second leader and first No. 1 debut.

“Was” is the lead single from Harry’s House, due May 20.
