Hardy Hoists ‘Beer’ to Top of Country Airplay: ‘This No. 1 Is Definitely the Most Special to Me’

Hardy scores his first No. 1 as a recording artist on Billboard's Country Airplay chart (dated Dec. 5).

Hardy scores his first No. 1 as a recording artist on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart (dated Dec. 5), as “One Beer,” featuring Lauren Alaina and Devin Dawson, rises from No. 3 to the top with 33.1 million audience impressions, up 10%, in the week ending Nov. 29, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Hardy (whose full name is Michael Wilson Hardy), 30, reigns in his second chart appearance as a recording act, after “Rednecker” reached No. 26 in April 2019.

“This No. 1 is definitely the most special to me,” Hardy tells Billboard of the single, released on the Big Loud label. “It takes a lot of work for a young artist to take a song to the top, between that artist and his radio team. So, from the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you and that I’m very excited for this achievement. I’ll definitely be drinking more than ‘one beer’ tonight.”

Hardy wrote “Beer” with Hillary Lindsey and Jake Mitchell. As a songwriter, it’s his seventh leader, after Morgan Wallen’s “More Than My Hometown,” now at No. 5 a week after it led the Nov. 28 list; Jameson Rodgers’ “Some Girls” (Oct. 31, one week); Chris Lane’s “I Don’t Know About You” (October 2019, one); Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country” (July 2019, two); Florida Georgia Line’s “Simple” (October 2018, one); and Wallen’s “Up Down,” featuring FGL (June 2018, one).

Alaina and Dawson earn their third and first No. 1, respectively. Alaina ruled for a week each with “Road Less Travelled” in April 2017 and as featured on Kane Brown’s “What Ifs” that October.

HAPPY’ PLACE Kenny Chesney rolls up his 58th Country Airplay top 10, as “Happy Does” hops 11-10 (19.6 million, up 4%).

Chesney ties Tim McGraw for the second-most Country Airplay top 10s, after George Strait’s 61, since the chart originated in 1990. Chesney boasts a record 31 No. 1s.
