Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ Gets Dance Remake, Drives Up Chart

While Chapman recorded her original as an introspective folk/pop song, which reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988 and helped her win three Grammy Awards in 1989, including best new artist, the composition has returned via two dance makeovers.

Jonas Blue‘s cover, featuring Dakota, debuts at No. 39 on Dance Club Songs and rises 18-16 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs after hitting the top 10 on multiple global charts. Meanwhile, Tobtok‘s take, featuring River, is beginning to gain international chart traction.

Capitol Records (Jonas Blue) and Latium/RCA Records (Tobtok) are promoting the singles to radio domestically, as each song revs up for potential drives up American airplay charts.

Meanwhile, Chapman’s original “Car” recently returned to Billboard‘s charts, on her new Greatest Hits album. The set debuted at No. 3 on Folk Albums in December.
