With the magnificent Cuchumatanes mountain range as a backdrop, we learn the stories of Sara, Elma and Cleotilde, three women from immigrant families in Chancol, Huehuetenango, Guatemala.
They all come from families where migration has been their daily bread for generations. Understanding the deep damage to family life and community relations, these women have opted to stay in their hometown and work to create alternative lifestyles for them, their siblings and generation to come. The local one-room rural library -an oasis of hope in this breathtaking desert of despair- embodies the defining role education, books and reading, plays in their saga.
