About Stephen A Parada, MD
Dr. Parada is a board-certified, fellowship-trained, Shoulder specialist. Dr. Parada completed his orthopaedic surgery residency in the U.S. Army at Madigan Army Medical Center and then was selected for a fellowship in Shoulder Surgery at one of the most prestigious programs, the Boston Shoulder Institute Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. During his training, he was also fortunate to spend time in France and Switzerland working with and training under the top European Shoulder Specialists. He completed his military service in the U.S. Army after serving for 12 years which included a deployment to Afghanistan. Dr. Parada then took over at AU as the Director of Shoulder Surgery, taking over the position from his long-time mentor, Dr. Lynn Crosby, who retired. Dr. Parada is one of only 10 Georgia orthopaedic surgeons in the exclusive American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons organization and the only one of those members outside of Atlanta and Columbus. He is a frequent lecturer and moderator at regional and national orthopaedic meetings and he has authored over 100 combined book chapters, journal articles and podium and poster abstracts. He is the President of the Georgia Shoulder & Elbow Society and serves on multiple committees of national organizations such as the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He performs extensive research in all matters related to the shoulder including clinical, biochemical and biomechanical studies. He is very passionate about providing care to his patients and strives to find the right plan for each person to fit their needs.

Clinical Interests
Dr. Parada treats all forms of injuries around the shoulder to include rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations, arthritis, shoulder blade issues, biceps tendon problems, fractures and all other bony and soft tissue issues around the shoulder. He takes care of shoulder injuries in patients of all ages.

Research Interests
Research interests include identifying new measurements of bone loss of the socket after shoulder dislocations to improve treatment plans; shoulder dislocation treatment consisting of reconstruction of the ball and socket joint with cadaver grafts; shoulder replacements; new forms of fracture fixation; infection prevention; biomechanical testing of shoulder reconstructions.

Philosophy of Care
Our philosophy of care of the shoulder team is to assist and enable you in a personalized approach so you can return to the function you want from your shoulder. This approach may include non-operative treatment or may include surgery, but that decision will be made by you as we guide you by explaining the pros and cons of each treatment option. Dr. Parada is extremely thorough. He never makes you feel rushed and explains answers to your questions in detail so you can fully understand why you can or cannot move forward in recovery after surgery. He has your best interest on the for front so you can make a full recovery.
