The Normandie Golf Club, built in 1901, was officially purchased Friday by the Metropolitan Golf Foundation.

It paid $1.5 million to buy the public course from UMSL. The foundation and others plan to raise $15 million to create a new course designed by none other than Jack Nicklaus, plus a series of programs for kids. Beyond Housing CEO Chris Krehmeyer is part of the project. "It gives a visible sign of, things are getting better. It gives a visible sign that our community has great assets like the golf course and we're going to be able to provide top-notch programs for children in the community."

Those include First Tee, which empowers teens through the golf, and a caddy program that offers full scholarships to the University of Missouri.
