ASP Summer Interns

Thanks to the generosity of the University of Chicago and the Coalition for College, ASP will have six current college students working with us this summer!   These current UChicago students are from the Dallas/Fort Worth area, including some of ASP’s own alumni!  They are available to help students with fly-in applications, Coalition for College, Common App, or Apply Texas applications, and begin drafting essays.

In addition to workshops and open office hours, our interns want to serve as mentors to students who wish to participate in individual and small-group sessions throughout the summer.  Students will be grouped based on their academic interests, their personality, and their availability.  You can see all of the intern-hosted events on our calendar or sign up using this form.

Jackie Anuwe

Jackie is a rising second-year planning on majoring in sociology. She is from Arlington, Texas, and is super passionate about education reform (especially in the college admissions process)! Aside from being an Academic Success Program Intern, at UChicago, she is the vice president of the college access program Bridge to College and participates in the law organization Women In Law. When she is not partaking in any of the above activities, she is most likely listening to just about any type of music on Spotify and tending to her plants.

Bella Howard

Hi guys! My name is Bella and I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with you guys this summer. I am a rising second year at UChicago, and before college I graduated from South Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie. Currently I am a psychology major on a pre-medicine track, so if anyone has any questions about either of those interests in the college process feel free to reach out. Outside of academics I am involved in our on campus Latinx organization, as well as Peer Health Exchange, where I educate high school freshmen in the Chicago area on sexual and mental health topics. During quarantine I have spent the majority of my free time alternating between Netflix reality, Animal Crossing, and attempting to teach my morkie new tricks (mostly unsuccessfully). I cannot wait to meet you all whether it is for college advice, or trading on animal crossing!

Dayana Ambriz

Oh, hi! I’m Dayana Ambriz, a rising second year at the University of Chicago. I’m a double major in psychology and sociology with a minor in Spanish. Proudly born and raised in Arlington, Texas! I graduated from International Leadership of Texas AGPHS. I also happen to be a founding member in the ASP chapter at my high school and now I am an ASP summer intern ready and happy to help with anything you need.

Another fun fact, I am first gen! So anything you need help with I have gone through it or I can figure it out for you. Do not hesitate to reach out, I know how scary this process may seem and having someone to guide you can certainly help. Maybe ask me how I became an odyssey scholar.

Just here to let you know, binge watching Netflix is okay. Now where my fellow TVD fans at?! But seriously, cannot wait to meet you all and help guide you on this college application journey!
