EPA Awards WIFIA Loan to East County Advanced Water Purification Program The East County Advanced Water Purification Program, which will produce potable water for San Diego County, received a $388 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loan. The project is a collaborative effort between WateReuse members Padre Dam Municipal Water District and County of San Diego, as well as the City of El Cajon and Helix Water District. Read more. Recycled Water Used to Grow Sustainable Produce for Kids A group of farmers and activists have transformed 15-acres of land next to an airport in Martinez into an urban farm, thanks to recycled water from the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District. The Coco San Sustainable Farm uses recycled water from the nearby treatment plant to grow and provide free produce to schools, the food bank, and other non-profits that feed the hungry. Read more. Metropolitan Board Confirms Adel Hagekhalil as New General Manager The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has selected Adel Hagekhalil, a national water and infrastructure leader, to serve as its 14th general manager. Orange County Water District Receives Research Grant Southern California Salinity Coalition awarded Orange County Water District a $100,000 research grant to study ways to expand water reuse and further improve water quality. This grant will be used for an 18-month pilot study of flow-reversal reverse osmosis technology for municipal potable reuse. Read more. Water Replenishment District (WRD) Awarded Title XVI Grant As part of the Bureau of Reclamation’s Title XVI WaterSmart Reclamation and Reuse Grant Program, WRD was awarded $6 million for the Albert Robles Center for Water Recycling and Environmental Learning. Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts (LACSD) Releases Report on Recycled Water Use Reporting on Fiscal Years 2019 through 2020, LACSD's 31st annual report details a total recycled water production of 135.28 MGD and a total recycled water usage of 86.78 MGD.
