CHANGE, IPPF WHR, and the Center for Women's Global Leadership hosted a webinar panel event on Tuesday, May 4th to discuss the importance of global mobilization and solidarity to permanently end the global gag rule (GGR). Ending the GGR once and for all is a critical step the U.S. government must take to ensure that future U.S. presidents will never again be able to play politics with the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women, girls, and marginalized communities around the world. This event discussed the impact of the GGR in countries exposed to the policy, explored the impact of the policy on regional and global human rights progress, and provided attendees with information on how they can take action to permanently end the GGR by urging Congress to pass the Global HER Act. The webinar was moderated by Saoyo Tabitha Griffith, Managing Director, Strategic Issues and Research Council and featured a panel of the following speakers: Beirne Roose-Snyder, Director of Public Policy at CHANGE, based in Washington D.C.; Helena Chiquele, Head of Program at Oxfam Mozambique; Susana Medina, Co-Director of Sustainable Ecosystem & Development Unit, Intersectional Approaches at IPPF WHR, based in Barcelona; and Alicia Wallace, a Bahamas-based steering committee member for the Feminist Alliance of Rights (FAR).
