Adam Driver

Adam Driver is an American actor, best known for his roles in “Girls,” “Marriage Story,” “BlacKkKlansman” and the “Star Wars” franchise. Born on Nov. 19, 1983, in San Diego, Calif., Driver was largely raised in Indiana and applied to the Julliard School for drama at a young age. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after the September 11 attacks, serving nearly three years before being medically discharged. He then succeeded in auditioning for Julliard, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2009.

Driver made his film debut in Clint Eastwood’s 2011 historical drama “J. Edgar.” He landed his breakthrough role with the HBO series “Girls,” starring as the unhinged lover to Hannah, played by series star and creator Lena Dunham. Through the show’s six seasons, Driver earned three Emmy Award nominations for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series. He swiftly found himself in regular rotation of auteur projects, with roles in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln,” Joe and Ethan Coen’s “Inside Llewyn Davis” and Martin Scorsese’s “Silence.” He also played a supporting role in Noah Baumbach’s “Frances Ha” and has since become a regular collaborator with the writer-director. His performance in the 2019 drama “Marriage Story” earned Driver an Academy Award nomination for best actor. In 2014, Driver was cast in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as Kylo Ren, the main antagonist of a new trilogy of films in the science-fiction franchise and the son to Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher’s characters. He earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for his role in Spike Lee’s 2018 satirical political thriller “BlacKkKlansman.” Other notable directors that Driver has collaborated with include Ridley Scott, Leos Carax, Michael Mann and Fancis Ford Coppola.
