Finding the cause of truck tire failures

Finding the cause of truck tire failures

Think about the last time you dealt with a truck tire failure. Maybe there were huge safety consequences, maybe it hit your operating costs harder than anything else. Regardless of what happened after the failure, can you remember why the failure happened in the first place? What about the cause of the last five truck tire failures? Last 10? Is it a trend, or just bad luck?

Scrap tire analysis can tell the tire failure tale, allowing you to track trends.

“We’re seeing more road breakdowns from customers who don’t normally experience road breakdowns,” said Jason Miller, national fleet channel sales manager, Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. He’s seeing it because he’s looking for it. I caught up with Jason while he was visiting customers on the road to pick his brain about the overcoming scrap tire analysis challenges and quick tips as to what to look for when you’re diving into the pile. Watch the video above.

More from Miller

Jason Miller will joke that tires aren’t an interesting topic, but I beg to differ. Every time we connect, I learn something new and have a lot of fun talking with Jason. For example, do you know what component of the tire carries your load? Click below for the answer and more insight from Miller.
