Gotham Innovation Gambit - Team Application
The Gotham Innovation Gambit is an entrepreneurial training course. Modified from the NSF I-Corps program, this program is designed for teams to learn the business model canvas, the customer discovery process, and to get connected with the nation-wide NSF I-Corps network of instructors and leaders from sites, nodes, and the greater entrepreneurial ecosystem. Teams will conduct 30 customer discovery interviews and will receive eligibility to be nominated to the NSF I-Corps as well as receive guided help in navigating "Next Steps" resources for entrepreneurs and startup founders

THIS COURSE IS OPEN TO ALL ACADEMIC AND COMMUNITY TEAMS- regardless of location. Teams from any university/college are encouraged to apply. Community teams, those not affiliated with a university, are also welcome to apply.

Requirements:
- Teams consists of 2+* members** - preferably consisting of an Entrepreneurial Lead (undergrad, grad, Ph.D. student who will move the project forward) and a Technical Lead (typically, a faculty member, senior research scientist, postdoctoral scholar, or others with deep and direct technical expertise in the actual core technology about which the I-Corps team is exploring commercial potential). Teams are encouraged to also have an Industry Mentor. Full role descriptions listed in the application below.
- Have a technology innovation/idea in any STEM field and want to explore its commercialization potential
- Willing to find and talk to 30 potential customers in three weeks
- May want to apply for the NSF I-Corps Teams National Program and manage a $50,000 grant

*We encourage one-person teams to still apply!

**Teams may not split attendance between members. Each team member is required to attend and participate fully in every session of the short course.

Teams should consists of 2+ members - an EL and at least one other role, as described below:

Entrepreneurial Lead - The Entrepreneurial Lead (EL) is typically a postdoctoral researcher, graduate student, or other student. The EL possesses relevant technical knowledge and a deep commitment to investigate the commercial landscape surrounding the innovation. The EL should also be prepared to support the transition of the technology, should the I-Corps™ project demonstrate a level of readiness appropriate to leave the academic institution. In community teams, the EL is likely the CEO

Co-Entrepreneurial Lead - A fellow student or team/company member who is co-leading the customer discovery process

Technical Lead/Principal Investigator - The Principal Investigator (PI) serves as the technical lead and project manager. In other scenarios, the TL is the most member most knowledge on the technical aspects of the project, and maybe also be the co-founder

Industry Mentor - The Industry Mentor (IM) is typically an experienced entrepreneur, or business executive with industry experience. The IM guides teams forward, helping them interpret customer comments, assisting the team in contacting relevant people, and keeping the team honest about what they are hearing from the marketplace. This member may also be someone familiar with the Lean LaunchPad Methodology and the Business Model Canvas, and/or has gone through I-Corps before
