The Henri Rieben Scholarship of the Foundation is open for the 14th consecutive year.

With a net amount of CHF 3,000 per month in addition to the reimbursement of travel expenses (home-Lausanne-domicile), the grant allows researchers from all over the world at doctoral level to stay at the Foundation for a period of one to three months.

Regardless of the researchers’ discipline, their doctoral thesis will focus on the history or challenges of European integration, or on the relations between Switzerland and Europe.

The Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe regularly publishes books on European history and current affairs. Depending on the topics of the fellows’ theses, the Foundation may be interested in publishing a popularised version of the research.

The scholarships awarded each academic year encourage access to and use of the Foundation’s resources, such as the personal archives of Jean Monnet, Robert Schuman (European papers), Robert Marjolin and Jacques Delors (1985-1995). These are sources of major interest for European studies and 20th century history.

The Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe has created a scholarship for young researchers dedicated to the memory of Professor Henri Rieben, the Foundation’s first President, from 1978 to 2005, a leading specialist in European integration. It is called “Henri Rieben Scholarship”.

The Henri Rieben Scholarship of the Foundation is financed exclusively by private sources and the objective of building up a base capital was achieved at the end of 2009, thanks in particular to the generosity of many members of the Board and former students of Professor Rieben.
