Sustainable Development Goals Teach-In at Seton Hall University

Last Fall, the Seton Hall University UNA-USA chapter collaborated with the School of Diplomacy and International Relations to hold a teach-in to launch the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a 17-point plan to end poverty, combat climate change, and fight injustice and inequality, aim to make the world a better place by 2030.

 

On October 23, 2015, Seton Hall’s student body got a head-start on making the global goals become reality. The purpose of the teach-in was to cultivate support for the UN while giving students the tools and knowledge to support, advocate, and spread awareness. Dr. Martin Edwards, Associate Professor at the School of Diplomacy and Director of the Center for United Nations and Global Governance Studies said, “The SDGs are all about how to create national and global conversations on how we can come together to solve global challenges. Conversation is essential to action and change.”

 

Campus chapters across the nation are encouraged to host teach-ins to inspire, inform, and educate students on what they can do and how they can become involved with the SDGs. Making this type of event successful requires planning, appropriate speakers or panelists, and an engaged audience of individuals who want to become agents of positive change.
