Fans of The Santa Clause franchise can now rest easy knowing that Scott Calvin’s former head elf didn’t explode like a blueberry in a microwave.
Midway through The Santa Clauses Season 2, viewers of the Disney+ sequel series were led to believe that Bernard’s successor Curtis (played in the original trilogy by Spencer Breslin) died a gruesome death sometime between 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause and 2022’s The Santa Clauses Season 1.
In Episode 4, when newly minted head elf Noel came under increased pressure at work, the North Pole’s doctor urged him to relax and warned, “If you don’t reduce your stress, you’re going to explode. Have you every seen a blueberry in a microwave? That’s what happens to elves who get as wound up as you do. We call it ‘Curtis-itis.'”
This led many to believe that Curtis literally combusted on the floor of Santa’s Workshop. (Talk about a gnarly way to go!)
But in Wednesday’s Season 2 finale, Curtis stans (we know you’re out there!) were given good news. While encouraging Betty and Noel to embrace Kribble-Krabble (aka the elf equivalent of Rumspringa), Scott and Carol alluded to the marrieds’ predecessors:
“Curtis went to Kribble-Krabble and never came back,” Scott said. “Neither did Bernard.”
While we still don’t know how Curtis is faring in the real world, we do have reason to hope that he’s led a good life. Lest we forget, Season 1 revealed that fan-favorite Bernard left the North Pole for Kribble-Krabble and gave up eternal youth to marry… Dame Vanessa Redgrave. (We swear we’re not making this up!)
But who knows! Perhaps Curtis will resurface in a potential third season of The Santa Clauses. After all, Scott still needs someone to take over as jolly ol’ Saint Nick – and neither Charlie nor Cal want the job.
As of press time, Disney+ has not revealed the fate of The Santa Clauses. While we await renewal or cancellation news, grade Season 2 of the enduring franchise via the following poll, then hit the comments with your reactions to the finale.
The ending to the Mad Santa -storyline was sooooooo rushed and silly. He plotted a takeover and a war for the whole season and then… it was over in a single scene, with few lines of dialogue. There was no war, no real danger. It felt odd.
I would love for him to show up. They’ve already set up for him being older just like bernard.
While this episode was a bit rushed, a true war would be out of character for this franchise. Overall, I really enjoyed the season. Somehow, I had missed the reference to Curtis in the earlier episode (or forgot about it), but I loved the shout out to him tonight.
honest? I don’t think we need a third season I thought they wrapped things up nicely without any loose ends, wouldn’t mind a La Bafana spinoff or standalone thing I like that she got some expansion
Season 1 had no loose ends either.
Still loved when David krumholtz came back and when I found out who he married just lost it as that fit’s within the Santa clause franchise as it’s fiction so why not go to the extreme
We want a season 3 of the Santa clauses please Disney+
Its called the Santa Clauses, why couldn’t both Cal and his sister take over, one can see the portals and the other can drive the sleigh. Hmm. It seems the logical approach there going for in season 3.
And I never got the council of legendries, wheres Halloween’s?
Ummm…hello! Sandra could be Santa! Why not?
