Duquesne University plans to begin construction next month on a new 11-story student apartment building on Forbes Avenue.

The 556-bed facility will include amenity spaces, bicycle parking, a fitness area and outdoor courtyards available to residents, students and others in the community, the university said.

The new building, located next to the university’s Power Center, is slated to include 216 apartments to house upper-class and graduate students. The university said they expect students to move into the apartments in fall 2024.

“We are excited to be able to offer an additional, vibrant living and learning environment in which our upper-year and graduate students will continue to build a sense of community,” Duquesne University President Ken Gormley said.

The university is partnering with Chicago-based Harrison Street, an investment management firm, and Philadelphia-based Radnor Property Group, a real estate company specializing in developing student housing, for the project.

The school teamed up with the same partners in 2018 to modernize Duquesne’s Brottier Hall and two years later, the team finalized plans to undertake extensive renovations at the school’s St. Martin Hall, which reopened in the fall.

The partnership “has allowed the university to greatly improve and diversify our housing offerings for our students,” said Matt Frist, senior vice president for finance and business at Duquesne.
