Serious About
Sustainability

At Duda Farm Fresh Foods, we're serious about sustainability and take responsibility for our environmental impacts. By using sustainable packaging materials, such as reusable or recyclable materials, we can help to reduce waste and pollution while protecting the produce we grow.

In 2021, we established the Growing Greener Generation (GGG) team comprised of staff from a variety of departments in both our East and West coast growing locations who focused on collecting data to establish our Sustainable Packaging Baseline. The GGG team assessed our overall sustainability efforts with an objective to:

  • Streamline systems across operations
  • Reduce the total amount of packaging materials we use
  • Increase recyclability, reusability, or composability of remaining packaging materials

We intend to reduce the amount of packaging used and increase the recyclability, reusability, and compostability of our materials. We look to foster deeper partnerships with customers and suppliers who are just as dedicated to their sustainability journey as we are and help them achieve their own sustainability goals.

How We Will Achieve This

We've also set some ambitious but achievable goals to keep ourselves on track:

By 2021 - Complete!

We're proud to share that we achieved our first goal of completing our Sustainable Packaging Baseline, which documents all packaging components used for our products as well as each sustainability characteristic.

By 2025

Label 100% of our primary packaging with the How2Recycle® label.

By 2025

Achieve 90% recyclable, reusable, or industrial compostable primary packaging.

By 2030

Have 20% post-consumer recycled content in primary packaging.

By 2030

Reduce 20% of our virgin plastic in primary packaging.

Two

Check with your local waste hauler or a relevant government agency to see what is acceptable in your recycling container.

Three

Spread the word by sharing how your organization is reducing, reusing and recycling!

Thank you for choosing Duda Farm Fresh Foods and for joining us in our commitment to sustainability. Together, we can make a difference.

Glossary

We're measuring SMART goals, which measure specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timebound metrics.

Packaging components used on individual products. Examples include a bag used to wrap lettuce or a rubber band around a head of broccoli.

Packaging components used to combine individual products into cases. Examples include a cardboard box or PTI Tag (a food traceability label that supports food safety best practices).

Packaging components used to combine cases into pallets. Examples include a pallet or shrink wrap around the pallet.

Per the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, "a material is recyclable if it can be collected, sorted, reprocessed, and ultimately reused in manufacturing or making another item."

The use of non-virgin materials in an item. There are two types of recycled content, post-industrial and post-consumer recycled content.

A material that can be used again and again in its originally intended function within the supply chain. The material must accomplish a minimum number of reuses and can be returnable or refillable. See the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's and Reusable Packaging Association's website for additional information on reusability.

A label included on packaging artwork to instruct a consumer on how to properly dispose of the packaging. The How2Recycle® organization reviews all packaging to determine how it should be disposed and generates a label with instructions. Example labels can be seen at this link.
