B&ME

3rd Latin American School & Symposium "Brain & Mind Evolution" (B&ME)

October 18th to 29th, 2021 ***Apply before the 19th of September 2021

Since 2017, B&ME has been a successful neuroscience training program for Latin American graduate students. In an international collaborative effort this year, we will carry it out in the capital city of Chile, Santiago. In 2017 and 2019 it was held at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable (IIBCE, MEC) in Montevideo (Uruguay).

B&ME 2017 and 2019 has provided theoretical and practical training to more than 75 participants, a significant interaction experience with world-class scientists.

In an effort to strengthen B&ME international nature, this year we will carry it out in the capital city of Chile, Santiago. Being organized by the Diego Portales University (UDP) and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). B&ME is coordinated by Dr. María Castelló (IIBCE, Uruguay) and Dra. Anabel Fernández (IIBCE, Uruguay; School of Science, UdelaR), Dr. Juan F. Montiel (UDP) and Prof. Dr. Francisco Aboitiz (PUC).

B&ME-2021 will take place in a hybrid format and will consist of a nine days theoretical-practical course followed by a symposium.

Students will have the opportunity to present their work and appreciate the different positions from other researchers and the B&ME integrative perspective. For graduate students and postdoctorades physically attending it will be a requirement to present in the Symposium.

B&ME goals are:

1) Improve Postgraduate Latin American student’s formation and knowledge of brain organization and the principles that govern its Evolution and subserve emergent properties as behavior and cognitive functions such as consciousness.

2) Update Latin American Graduate student’s knowledge for a better approach to the state of the art of some specific themes and topics of Brain and Mind Evolution.

3) To provide analytical tools on brain genomics, brain anatomy, and artificial intelligence research.

The School will be divided into five units:

Fundamentals
Brain Evolution & Development
Novel approaches in Evolutionary Neurosciences
Evolutionary Cognition and learning, and
Artificial Intelligence.

B&ME involves 25 theoretical talks, two practicals, and five seminars.

This School will convene world-class scientists working on different phylogenetic, temporal, and structural scales and exploring new strategies for data analysis.
