Literacy Clinic Application Form
Thank you for your interest in the University of Missouri-St. Louis' online Literacy Clinic. This Literacy Clinic provides 1:1 or small group tutoring to K-12 students who are are in need of reading and writing support. Staffed by faculty and students gaining clinical experience as they obtain education degrees and advanced literacy endorsement, the clinic serves as a hub for community learning. We ask family members and caregivers to be active partners in this process.

Our next Literacy Clinic sessions run concurrently with the UMSL academic semesters (fall and spring) and are held virtually (via ZOOM). Students who are accepted are matched with an educator for 12, one-on-one or small group literacy sessions. The Clinic is held after school and/or in the evening. Our goal is to identify students’ reading strengths through a battery of literacy assessments and design a literacy intervention program to target specific literacy needs. Each instructional program is designed with students' cultural, familial, and linguistic resources and strengths in mind.

We invite students and families from historically under-served school districts to apply especially those who are neighbors to the University of Missouri-St. Louis (e.g. Normandy, Jennings, Ferguson-Florissant, Ritenour) and those with which we have a partnership (e.g. St. Louis Public Schools). We will also prioritize applications for students who are reading/writing one year behind grade level.

When you apply, your application will automatically be entered into a database. There is limited space in the Literacy Clinic each semester. You will NOT hear from anyone until a space becomes available in the Literacy Clinic. At that point, you will be asked to complete a separate registration form to register your student/child. There are no fees associated with the Literacy Clinic. However, we do ask for consistent attendance and family/care-giver/parent engagement.
