at Via de’ Nari # 6, Rome, March 1970.

In our next virtual event on October 7, at 6 pm Pacific Time, architect Steven Holl will share personal images, photographs and reflections from growing up in the Pacific Northwest, to his pivotal early education and explorations in Rome with Professor Astra Zarina and others, with thoughts on his significant collaborations and connections with architects, artists and thinkers in Italy over the years.

This collection of images and narration is being prepared by Steven especially for this special Civita Institute virtual event and will be recorded in his studio in the Hudson Valley in late September 2021.

Steven Holl is one of the most influential architects working in the world today, an AIA Gold Medal winner, and a renowned teacher in architecture. We are honored that he is a member of our Advisory Group and a Founding Member of The Civita Institute. His firm, Steven Holl Architects, is recognized for the ability to shape space and light with great contextual sensitivity and to catalyze the unique qualities of each project to create a concept-driven design at multiple scales, from minimal dwellings, to university works, to new hybrid models of urbanism. The firm has realized architectural works around the world, with extensive experience in the arts, campus and educational facilities, and residential work, as well as mixed-use and office design, public works, and master planning. Puget Sound area examples of the firm’s work include the Bellevue Arts Museum and the Chapel of St. Ignatius at Seattle University.

You will not want to miss this event, with an introduction by Stephen Day, Civita Institute Board member and a research assistant to Steven Holl at Columbia University in the 1980’s.

All event attendees will be entered into a random drawing for a limited edition print donated by Steven Holl. Thank you, Steven! Additional information about the piece will be provided in our next announcement email.
