Note: Microsoft is updating the way we ask for permission to use your voice data to improve Microsoft products that use our speech recognition technology. This may impact the data you see on the privacy dashboard. To learn more about these changes, see How does Microsoft protect my privacy while improving its speech recognition technology?

Why don't I see new voice data on the dashboard?

We’re working to give you more choices for apps and services that use Microsoft speech recognition technologies. Voice clips that are stored by our speech recognition technologies are no longer associated with your Microsoft account. Because of this, new voice data will no longer show up on your privacy dashboard. Voice data previously collected from products through our speech recognition technologies and associated with your Microsoft account prior to October 30, 2020 will still show up on your dashboard for as long as Microsoft keeps it.

How do I view and clear my voice data?

To view and clear the voice data associated with your Microsoft account that Microsoft has collected and stored in the cloud, go to the privacy dashboard.

You should be aware that clearing your voice activity will remove your audio recordings but may not remove all information associated with your voice activity. To view or clear other activity data associated with your Microsoft account, be sure to review the activity data section of your privacy dashboard home page, where you can manage activity data like search history and browsing history.

To control whether voice clips are contributed for improving online speech recognition on your Windows device:

  1. Go to Start  > Settings > Privacy > Speech.

  2. Under Help make online speech recognition better, select one of the following:

    • Start contributing my voice clips

    • Stop contributing my voice clips

Notes: In previous versions of Windows 10, you would stop sharing your voice data by doing one of the following:

  • Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Speech and turn the Online speech recognition setting to Off.

  • Select Start  > Settings  > Privacy > Speech, inking, & typing and select Turn off speech services and typing suggestions.

Why can’t I see all of my voice data on the privacy dashboard?

Voice clips collected through apps and services that use speech recognition technologies are no longer associated with your Microsoft account . Because of this, new voice data collected through products that use speech recognition technologies will no longer show up on your privacy dashboard. Voice data previously collected from products through our speech recognition technologies and associated with your Microsoft account  prior to October 30, 2020 will still show up on your dashboard for as long as Microsoft keeps it.

When you used your Microsoft account to sign in to apps that use Microsoft speech recognition technologies prior to October 30, 2020, any voice data collected and associated with your account appeared on the privacy dashboard. Other voice-enabled features such as Translator might have collected your voice data to enable continued feature functionality and improvement, but such voice data is not associated with your Microsoft account. Likewise, if you’re not signed in to a voice-enabled product with your Microsoft account, your voice data might have been collected and stored, but it would not be associated with your Microsoft account and will not be viewable on the privacy dashboard.
