Due to the nature of iOS Apple mobile devices, it may be necessary to install a security certificate in order to connect to the ATU GlobalProtect VPN from an iPhone or iPad.  Below are steps that can be followed to install the certificate:

  1. If you aren't using Safari, open that browser and navigate back to this page. This is necessary in order for the Apple device to know how to correctly download and install the security certificate. Once you are viewing this page in Safari, proceed to the next step.

  2. Click on and download the certificate attached at the bottom of this article.

  3. You may be prompted that the website is trying to download a configuration profile with a confirmation on whether you want to allow it.  If so, click Allow.

  4. If the download is successful, an information prompt should appear indicating that a Profile Downloaded and that the profile can be reviewed in the Settings app if you want to install it.  Click Close to proceed.

  5. In the Settings app, there should be a menu item close to the top that says "Profile Downloaded".  Click that.  If "Profile Downloaded" is not there, this might be due to multiple devices or offers on your device and clicking on "More for your iPhone" may need to be done first before the "Profile Downloaded" button appeared.

  6. If you have multiple Apple devices, you may be prompted to select a device... if so, choose your iPhone.

  7. There should be an entry for "pa.atu.edu" and it should have a "Not Verified" listed in red.  Click Install in the top right corner.  If you're prompted for your passcode, enter it.

  8. A warning may appear indicating that the certificate will be added to the trusted certificates list on your device.  Click Install again.

  9. Another prompt may appear to confirm the install.  If so, click Install.

  10. Once installed, the certificate should now be shown as "Verified"

  11. Still in the Settings app, navigate to General->About->Certificate Trust Settings

  12. The pa.atu.edu certificate should be listed.. click the slider next to it to tell your device to trust the certificate. If prompted, click Continue.

  13. Once done, you should now be able to exit the Settings app and open the GlobalProtect app to try to connect
