Fact/Fiction: Constructed Images

AnDrew Sovjani

September 26, 2023 - April 13, 2024

Reception: November 8, 2023

“Fact/Fiction: Constructed Images” is a solo exhibition featuring the work of visual artist Andrew Sovjani. Fact/Fiction showcases Sovjani’s evolving practice, allowing for comparisons to be drawn between three distinct bodies of his work: Whitewashed, Paper White and Fabrication of Space. His photographs serve as a vehicle for analysis and interpretation, representing both art and artifact, revelation and fabrication. His process of constructing, arranging and revising is part of an overall performance just as important as the finished print. His artistic intention–and intervention–is evident in each piece.

Libby Curatorial Scholarship enables students to learn about the various aspects of producing an exhibition, allowing for a sequence of decision-making from curatorial concept to completion. Over the course of the semester, students meet with Southeast Museum of Photography staff who assist the process and provide guidance.
