Smithsonian Privacy Policy

The Smithsonian Skillport environment cannot be used to post sensitive information.  Sensitive information is determined by each unit, but may include such information as combinations to locks, passwords, location of sensitive materials, etc.  
                             
In addition, Skillport may not be used to post sensitive personally identifiable information (SPII) without the prior approval of OCIO IT Security.  SPII is defined as information, which if lost, compromised, or disclosed without authorization, could result in substantial harm, embarrassment, inconvenience, or unfairness to an individual.  Examples of SPII include social security numbers, credit card numbers, financial account numbers, and biometric identifiers such as iris scans, retina scans, finger prints, and voice prints.  Certain data elements such as medical information, driver’s license number, full date of birth, passport numbers, security information such as mother’s maiden name, last four digits of the social security number, in combination with an individual’s identity, is also considered SPII.
