The Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research is holding a seminar at 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023, as part of its Brown Bag Seminar Series.

“Health Disparities in the Context of COVID-19”

Presented by Shan Qiao, University of South Carolina

From the event description: Shan Qiao is an associate professor in the Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior at the University of South Carolina. She received a Ph.D. degree from Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in 2012. Qiao’s background includes academic training in sociology, anthropology, and public health. She has been engaged in HIV prevention and treatment studies since 2006 with foci on behavior, clinical outcomes, and psychosocial wellbeing issues including disclosure, stigma, resilience, and chronic stress. She has been working with diverse priority populations including female sex workers, men who have sex with men (MSM), children affected by HIV, and people living with HIV in China, Zambia, and the United States. She is expanding her research in exploring health disparities and inequality using “big data” approaches.
