RBMS BSC Rare Materials Catalogers Directory

Developed and maintained by the Bibliographic Standards Committee, a committee of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College & Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association.

Scope

The RBMS BSC Rare Materials Catalogers Directory is designed to connect individuals and institutions seeking guidance related to the intellectual access and care of rare materials with experienced cataloging and metadata library workers.

Participants listed in the Directory work closely with rare materials and have deep experience related to metadata creation.  Participants may also have relevant experience related to collection development/curation, conservation/preservation, digitization, exhibition, instruction, metadata, and other relevant areas; they may also be specialists focusing on geographic regions, time periods, artistic and literary movements, and specific subject matters.

Potential questions might include those related to descriptive bibliography; transformation of metadata in preparation for digitization; supplies and physical housing of materials; and identification and dating of illustrative processes. Participant entries also include their institutions’ OCLC symbols and MARC organization codes so that users of the Directory may reach out to specific institutions with questions about catalog records and cataloging.

If you are involved in providing intellectual access to rare materials and are willing to share your knowledge, please consider becoming a part of this directory and fill out the form below.

If you have a question or comment, please contact the Directory Editor at directoryeditor@rbms.info
