Academic Radiologist Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging

The UC Irvine School of Medicine, Department of Radiological Sciences is currently seeking a qualified candidate as a Section Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging in the Professor of Clinical “X” Series and Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series, at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor rank to join our department’s leadership team. Experience in clinical operations and strong interest in mentorship, research and teaching is required. Expertise in all aspects of cardiovascular and thoracic imaging is essential.

  • Criteria for the Professor of Clinical “X” Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is essential criteria for appointment in this series.
  • Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.

Requirements –
The Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging division will be a leader in the field with reputation in academic leadership and clinical excellence. The applicant will report directly to the chair of radiological sciences and will be a member of the departmental leadership team. The section chief will participate in departmental strategic planning and operations. Within the cardiothoracic section, the Chief will oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the section, mentor faculty, promote research, coordinate educational programs and work collaboratively with other faculty and section chiefs. Protected time is provided for administrative duties.

Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree. The applicant must be fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic Imaging and have a documented interest in research and teaching with excellent track record in scholarly activities. Candidates must be board-certified in diagnostic radiology and be licensed or be eligible for full licensure in the State of California.

The department has state–of- the- art equipment including clinical 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners (including Siemens Vida and Lumina scanners) and single energy/spectral CT scanners. Photon Counting CT is planned for installation in 2023. In addition, there are 320-slice CT, 3T MRI and 9.4T small animal MRI research scanners. The cardiothoracic section at UCI does not provide cross-sectional interventional service.

The University of California, Irvine Medical Center is a 411-bed tertiary and quaternary care hospital with all residencies. UCIMC is a NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Level 1 Trauma Center . There are collegial relationships with all services. Position: Diagnostic Neuroradiology – Tenure Track Assistant Professor / Tenured Associate Professor

The Department of Radiological Sciences, University of California Irvine (UCI), is seeking a qualified candidate for a tenure track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor position in the subspecialty of Diagnostic Neuroradiology. The position will be responsible for directing the Imaging Health Services and Comparative Outcome Research in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California Irvine. The position requires promoting the quality of imaging services and research on health disparity issues and comparative effectiveness among faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students, teaching course curricula related to health services, and engaging UCI faculty in relevant research projects. Expertise in imaging health services and comparative outcome research, particularly considering the racial and ethnic disparity in the catchment area of UCI, is required. This faculty position will also be responsible for at least 20% clinical coverage in the Section of Diagnostic Neuroradiology, as well as fulfilling the research and teaching duties in the Section.

Basic Qualifications – Candidate must possess an MD or MD/PhD degree and must be fellowship trained in Diagnostic Neuroradiology with a documented track record in health services, comparative effectiveness, and health disparity research and teaching.

Additional Qualifications – By the start of position, candidates must be board-certified in diagnostic radiology and hold a medical license in the State of California.

The Department of Radiological Sciences performs over 220,000 examinations per year and has 40 full-time and part time faculty. All equipment is state of the art. Junior or Assistant Specialist

Position: Junior or Assistant Specialist

The Department of Radiology at the University of California, Irvine is accepting applications for Junior or Assistant Specialists. These are one year appointments, non-senate, and is renewable based on performance and availability of funding.

The position involves assisting faculty with research investigation in the health services research. Areas of research include costs of care discussion with patients, improving patients’ care adherence, shared decision making, patient preferences, and health disparities predominantly in patients with cancer, but also other health conditions.

Incumbent is expected to make scientific and scholarly contributions to the research enterprise. Incumbent will assume responsibilities including: 1) providing support for recruitment and participant engagement; 2) maintaining study database (RedCAP); creating data reports; 3) conducting literature reviews; 4) assisting with protocol development and IRB submission; 5) assisting with presentations, reports, and manuscript writing; 6) assisting with training and supervising student research assistants; and assisting with other tasks as needed. There is close collaboration with other departments and institutions.

The Sadigh Lab is renowned for expertise in health services research. The overarching mission of the Sadigh Laboratory is to improve evidence-based health care delivery. The group has a proven track-record of obtaining competitive R01 funding.

Potential projects in the Sadigh Lab include:
• Prospective clinical trials to assess impact of behavioral or social interventions on patient- reported outcomes. There will be potential to work on two R01 project (1) testing the effectiveness of a mobile health intervention on improving adherence to oral chemotherapy in patients with metastatic breast cancer; (2) testing the effectiveness of out of pocket cost communication and financial navigation on improving patients care adherence. There will be involvement with additional clinical trials focused on improving adherence to lung cancer screening.
• Secondary data analysis of big national databases to assess health disparity and impact on healthcare use.

Minimum Qualifications:
Junior Specialist requirement: Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or equivalent research experience.
Assistant Specialist requirements: MS Degree or relevant Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with medical research and scientific writing. Experience in health services research is desirable.

Collaborative: performs as a team member with good interpersonal skills Strong analytical and organizational skills; detail-oriented
Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team Contribute to manuscript preparation, IRB submission and grant writing.

Priority will be given to candidates with excellent written/spoken English and Spanish or Vietnamese, given potential for recruit of Spanish-speaking and Vietnamese speaking research participants.

The Department of Radiological Sciences, University of California, Irvine, anticipates openings in the TRUE Lab at UC Irvine. We are seeking a Postdoctoral in Biomedical Imaging. Candidate must be creative, dedicated, and team-oriented individual to join our research team (https://truelab.som.uci.edu/). The TRUE lab focuses on theragnostics with radiation induced acoustic emission for radiological imaging and radiation oncology. Our lab is affiliated with the Department of Radiological Sciences in the School of Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UCI. And we are also part of Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic, and Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Requirements (Imaging instrumentation): Applicant would have PhD, MD or MD/PhD. Candidates who have a strong background in X-rays, protons, and ultrasonics are highly encouraged to apply. Researchers with experience in photoacoustic imaging will be given a priority.

The Department of Radiology at the University of California, Irvine anticipates openings for Junior, Assistant, Associate, and full Specialists.

We are currently accepting applications from candidates with a robust training background in imaging instrumentation or image algorithm development. Individuals with expertise in ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging are strongly encouraged to apply. This is an ongoing recruitment. Positions are dependent on extramural funding. The section provides CT, MRI, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy/radiography imaging services; invasive procedures are performed separately by the interventional radiology section. The UC Irvine Medical Center is a 450-bed acute care and tertiary referral facility.
