2021 Owen O. Washington Scholarship Recipients First Place $1,500 Scholarship Recipients Jordan Shipp of the Pensacola, FL Bowling Senate is the daughter of Barry (deceased) and Taffany Shipp. Bowling and TNBA is a major element in Jordan's blood. Her mother, father, brothers, aunt and uncle have been a part of The Southern Region of TNBA for more than 40 years. Bowling has given Jordan the opportunity to travel all over the country to bowl in numerous USBC, and TNBA youth tournaments. She received the Greater Pensacola USBC Youth Bowler of The Year, USBC Sportsman Award and USBC Youth Bowler of the Year, 2016- 2020. Jordan's highest average is 196, game 286 with a high series of 712. Jordan has also accumulated more than 100 hours of community service with various community organizations. She sang in the choir, danced in the Praise Dance Ministry and performed in the Drama Ministry at her church. Jordan graduated with a 4.66 GPA and plans to attend Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) and major in Biochemistry and Public Health. After having a teacher not believe she had a dental appointment that made her late for school, she realized that many of her classmates had never been to a dentist. So, she decided that she needed to become a Pediatric Dentist to serve the people in her community. Kendall Battles of the Greater Philadelphia, PA Bowling Senate is the son of Kimberly Battles. His bowling accomplishments filled a page, including: 3-time public Philadelphia HS Bowling Champ, 3-time USA Bowling Team Champion, Pennsylvania State Pepsi State Tournament Champion and Pennsylvania Juniors Bowlers Tour Champion. Kendall is always willing to assist his coaches by mentoring and tutoring the younger bowlers. He also has a page of accolades outside of bowling including the Randolph College Classic Award in Latin and Highest GPA for all four years of high school. Community Service awards including a Junior Servant Leadership Award from the Center for Black Educator Development for creating an Instagram Page and Website to promote studies in Black History. Kendall is graduating with a 4.58 GPA (mostly A+'s) and plans to attend Robert Morris University of Pennsylvania and major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology.
