MEETING AGENDA
Mattress, Box Spring, and Linens Recycling
An estimated 20 million mattresses were dumped into landfills last year and it takes up to 90 years for a mattress to decompose in a landfill. Hotels can make a great impact by disposing of mattresses responsibly, transforming them into reusable materials:
· Every mattress dumped in a landfill takes up 23 cubic feet of space and absorbs up to three times its weight in moisture.
· At landfills, mattresses decompose letting different chemicals to seep into the ground and into the waste stream.
· It costs less to recycle a mattress than to throw it out reducing disposal costs.
Christine Kiourtsis President of Renewable Recycling, Inc. will speak about an innovative program that disassembles mattresses and box springs on site, distributing all parts to vendors that re-purpose the parts and creating jobs. The company certifies that 100% of the mattresses will be properly processed and a diversion report is provided. Learn more here: https://renewablerecycling.com
Donation Programs
Many of the items designated for garbage pick-up are reusable and can be quickly scheduled for donation saving money on disposal. These donations also provide much needed support for important causes and save landfill space.
