2021 High Holiday Reader

Tradition Online | September 2, 2021

TRADITION shares this year’s High Holiday Reader dedicated to the thought of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks z”l. Rabbi Sacks masterfully integrated “The BEST” of Western thought with the timeless message of Torah to create a hopeful message for the Jewish people and for all humanity. We have dedicated this year’s reader to Rabbi Sacks’ bookshelves. Rosh Hashana is a time to think broadly of Hashem’s world and our place within it and Rabbi Sacks’ model is a most worthwhile framework for such thinking.

The short essays in the printer-friendly downloadable booklet, ideal for reading and as basis for conversation around your Yom Tov table, have been authored by leading scholars, thinkers, rabbis, and educators in our worldwide community of ideas, in addition to material penned by Rabbi Sacks himself. In these pages you will encounter our writers presenting “The BEST” that has been thought and said in a wide array of cultural objects, and understand how their consumption is potentially profitable to us as thinking, spiritual and religious beings.

The material collected here is culled from TraditionOnline’s Rabbi Sacks Bookshelves Project and our “The BEST” series. We are grateful to our associate editor, Rabbi Chaim Strauchler, of Teaneck’s Cong. Rinat Yisrael, for his leadership of these initiatives and editorship of this special High Holiday Reader which we are certain will enhance your experience over the coming holiday season.
