Thinking Literature

Thinking Literature publishes books committed to the intensive, expansive exploration of how literature thinks, and to the refinement of literary criticism as a mode of reasoning in and about the world. We welcome manuscripts that treat the art of interpretation as a distinct class of inquiry with formidable explanatory power, that draw on other disciplines without being beholden to them, and that view their objects not only as aesthetic but as epistemological resources. Ideal submissions will open a set of texts and bring those texts to life through deft, imaginative readings. Our field criteria are porous but we are especially keen to find and cultivate new work in poetry and poetics, literature and philosophy, and experimental criticism. We are pleased to consider first books as well as those by senior scholars. Authors interested in submitting work for the series should send a proposal and sample chapter via email attachment to Alan Thomas, athomas2@uchicago.edu.
