NEW YORK (PIX11) — CUNY and the NYC Young Men’s Initiative are offering fathers in New York City a free program to get their High School Equivalency or college prep courses through a program advertised on the new Jobs NYC portal.

The program aims to help men aged 18 to 30 become better fathers through two separate tracks, allowing them to further their careers or education.

Three colleges offer the program: Kingsborough Community College, Hostos Community College and LaGuardia Community College.

To qualify for the HSE track, you need to be a resident of New York City, a father or expecting father, and committed to finishing the three- to six-month program.

For those that are looking to join the college prep track, you need to meet the same requirements as the HSE track, but you also need to have a high school diploma, HSE diploma or GED; you can’t be enrolled in college and need to have less than 12 college credits.

The program also provides parenting workshops, financial assistance, internships and job placement opportunities.
