'His true passion was his family along with his career as a master's cross country and road racing champion' Richard Walter Hill, 85, of Red Bank, NJ, formerly a long time Middletown, NJ, resident passed away on January 2, 2022, in Red Bank, NJ, with his wife Patricia and family by his side. Richard was born September 30th, 1936, in Hackensack, NJ, to Walter and Ann Marie (Hahn) Hill. He met his wife of 62 years, Patricia Torrisi, when he was a student at Rutgers University. Richard graduated in 1957 with a major in Mathematics, was a four-year varsity athlete in cross country and track and field, was a TKE fraternity brother and a ROTC member. Upon graduation Richard joined the US Army as part of the CIC (Counter Intelligence Corp). Richard and Patricia were married on May 2nd, 1959 in New Brunswick, NJ at Sacred Heart Church. He embarked on a 40-year career with The Prudential Life Insurance Company as an actuary. He held a wide variety of executive roles that took his family from Livingston, NJ, to Brentwood, CA, Barrington, IL, Edina, MN, Holmdel, NJ, Jacksonville, FL and Middletown NJ where he retired at age 60. Richard was respected by all his colleagues and had the rare combination of the analytical actuarial mind with the personality and charisma of a sales executive. During his career, and post-retirement, Richard was always on the go with many pursuits and activities. Richard holds the prestigious "Loyal Son of Rutgers" designation, was a long- time member of the Rutgers Board of Trustees, served a term as President of the Rutgers Alumni Association, was a Board member of Bayshore Hospital and was a faithful and charitable parishioner at the Church of Saint Catharine in Holmdel, NJ. He enjoyed many summers during the last 50 years, kayaking, sailing, swimming, grilling, running and working on perpetual projects with family at his summer cottages at Snake Pond in Sandwich, MA. Richard's true passion was his family along with his career as a master's cross country and road racing champion, where he integrated the two to create dozens of cherished family memories. It was not uncommon to see Richard at a Jersey Shore road race, or the Falmouth Road Race with his trademark grin, hugging a large combination of his wife, children, in laws and grandchildren at the finish line. Richard and Patricia traveled around the country, and internationally, with his loyal Shore AC teammates, combining his love of competition, friends and travel. Richard treasured holidays with family, whether it was his quest for the largest Christmas tree in the state or "scaring" his grandchildren with his collection of Halloween masks. Most importantly though, Richard was present at countless activities and always "there" for his children and grandchildren when it mattered, offering support, guidance and compassion. Through good times and bad, spending time with "Pop" made everyone feel better. His infectious personality positively impacted all who knew him. Richard was predeceased by his brother Robert, is survived and will be dearly missed by all that knew him, but mostly by his devoted wife Patricia, his four children (and in-laws) Karen McNamara (Sean), Kevin (Carolyn), Brian (Christine) and Lauren Hill and 11 grandchildren, Brendan, Megan, Patrick, Shannon, Michael, Katherine, Brian, Troy, Kyle, Rhiannon and Liam, his great grand-daughter Mackenzie, and his long-time dedicated aid and friend Dian Owen.
