St. Cloud State brings a deep roster loaded with experienced players and transfers looking to establish themselves into 2021. The Huskies have made five straight NCAA Central Region Tournaments, and under head coach Pat Dolan’s 14-year tenure they have appeared in nine regionals. At the plate, the Huskies will be led by first baseman Jake Shusterich (.869 OPS, 4 HR, 14 RBI), outfielders Lenny Walker (.317/.440/.463, 4 2B, 4 SB), John Nett (.357/.455/.429, 3 SB) and Matt Quade along with transfers Paul Steffensen, Max Gamm, Tate Wallat and first-year Caleb Marquez. Steffensen has played in 114 games collegiately between Mesa College and Tennessee Tech, owning a .357/.409/.530 triple slash with 27 doubles, 13 triples, seven homers, 92 runs scored and 82 RBI over 470 plate appearances. With pitching typically a strength of the Huskies program, lefthanders Matt Osterberg (1-1, 2.84 ERA, 3 GS, 19.0 ip, 24:6 K:BB) and Shannon Ahern (3-0, 2.63 ERA, 3 G, 13.2 ip, 15:4 K:BB) will front the staff along with Riley Ahern, Trevor Koenig and Fabian Villegas. Osterberg, last season’s opening day starter, posted a brilliant 2019 campaign in which he started 8 games and went 5-2 with a 3.35 ERA while punching out 55 (26.2%) and walking just 16 (7.6%) over 48.1 innings pitched. SCSU’s defense is sure to impress with Kyle Rodriguez, Gamm, Wallat and Shusterich patrolling the infield; Nett, Steffensen, Walker and Quade manning the outfield and Drew Bulson, Ean Von Wald, Reid Conlee and Marquez behind the plate.
