HBA CENTRAL NEW JERSEY PRESENTS

Why a Career in Medical Writing?

Medical writing is a broad term that encompasses many different roles and opportunities. For example, medical writers are uniquely positioned at the intersection of pharmaceutical science and scientific communications. They may choose a path to support regulatory writing and submissions to health authorities for a new treatment approval, or they may choose to work in medical communications, helping to disseminate key medical and scientific information in the public domain. Medical writers can also choose the way in which they practice, working in small biotech companies, large pharma companies, contract research organizations, or as independent free-lance writers. Employed across these various settings, the role and responsibilities of a medical writer can vary greatly based on job setting. This panel discussion will provide an overview of career options within the realm of medical writing, the value of ISMPP (International Society for Medical Publication Professionals) membership and certification, and Q&A with 3 experienced medical writers who will share their unique journeys that led them to medical writing as a career.
