Milwaukee Men’s Basketball Unveils Non-Conference Schedule

Slate includes stops at Colorado and Florida

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men's basketball program announced its 2021-22 non-conference schedule today, featuring five home games, road contests at Florida and Colorado, and a pair of contests in the "Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off" in late November.

The Panthers will take on two different teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, three teams that made the postseason overall, as well matchups with two other programs that posted 20-win seasons a year ago.

"A lot of time and focus goes into scheduling and we feel we accomplished our goals," head coach Pat Baldwin said. "We maximized our opportunities to play in front of our fans at Panther Arena against some high quality non-conference opponents. In addition, we will have great challenges on the road and at neutral sites against some very good teams that will ultimately prepare us for a tough Horizon League slate. We can't wait to get started and are excited to see our fans back at Panther Arena."

Game times and television broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

Beginning with an exhibition against MSOE Oct. 30, the Panthers kick off the 2021-22 campaign at home. The regular season opener will then be November 9, with Milwaukee tipping off the campaign with a road trip to North Dakota.

The tradition from two winters ago continues next, with the Panthers welcoming Eastern Kentucky to UWM Panther Arena for their "Homecoming" contest November 13. More details on that event will be announced soon on the MKE website. The Colonels went 22-7 last season, advancing to the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

The team sets its sights on the state of Florida after that, starting with a matchup against a Gators team Nov. 18 that finished 15-10 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. MKE and Florida have only played once in program history, with the Panthers falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to the Gators back in 2006, the season Florida went on to win the national title.

The Fort Meyers Tip-Off will also bring a challenging slate, opening the event Nov. 23 against a Bowling Green squad that played in the College Basketball Invitational in the postseason in 2020-21. A second game will see MKE take on either Yale or Southern Utah.

Yale did not participate in a basketball season last winter, but did win the Ivy League regular-season title and finish 23-7 in 2019-20. Southern Utah set a school record for winning percentage last winter, going 20-4 while claiming the Big Sky regular-season title.

The Panthers then return home Nov. 28, welcoming Alcorn State to downtown. They will remain in the state until a trip out west the second week of December, heading to play Colorado for the first time since 2001. The Buffaloes are coming off a very successful campaign, having gone 23-9 while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. That contest is set for Dec. 10.

The non-conference slate then wraps up with a pair of home games, hosting Rhode Island Dec. 13 and NAIA-foe St. Xavier Dec. 23.
