MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee men's and women's cross country teams earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Team status again, the USTFCCCA announced.
The prestigious award is given to programs with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average. Milwaukee is one of the elite schools that had both their men's and women's squads recognized this season. Both teams are well above the minimum benchmark for the academic award. Milwaukee's men boast a 3.577 GPA – 26
th best out of 199 teams. Meanwhile, the women's team achieved a GPA of 3.509.
This marks the impressive 14
th-straight season both programs have been honored by the USTFCCCA, starting in 2006 with the inception of the award.
Individually, both
Meg Swietlik and
Mikayla Fox achieved USTFCCA All-Academic Athletes. There were 269 women who were named All-Academic Individuals in NCAA Division I overall.
Swietlik became just the second runner in Milwaukee history to qualify for the national meet, and was crowned the individual winner at the Horizon League Championships in March. Fox was right behind Swietlik to finish as league runner-up, and is her second time in three years to finish second at the league meet.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and have either qualified for the national championship meet of finished top-5 at their respective conference championship.
