INDIANAPOLIS – Milwaukee remains in first place in the race for the 2020-21 McCafferty Trophy, given to the all-sports champion of the Horizon League, heading into the spring championships bolstered by claiming two tournament titles.

The Panthers have 39 total points as the calendar moves towards the final eight championships, just a 2-point lead ahead of Oakland, as they claimed both the men's and women's soccer tournament titles last week. MKE also holds the No. 1 position in the women's standings with a dominant 26 points, followed by the Golden Grizzlies with 16 and Wright State with 14 points. The men's standings are led by Oakland with 21 points, trailed by Milwaukee with 13 points and tied for third are Cleveland State and Youngstown State with 12.

Oakland has compiled 37 points to jump to second place in the standings as the Golden Grizzlies once again won the men's and women's swimming and diving championship in early April, while the men's soccer team finished second place during the regular season. Northern Kentucky comes in third place with 22 points led by the men's and women's soccer teams each collecting their first regular season championships and the volleyball team finished third in the standings and earned a spot in the tournament.

IUPUI and Youngstown State are in a tie for fourth place with 21 points as IUPUI's women's soccer team was third in the regular season to qualify for the League tournament and both swimming and diving programs finished fourth at the championships. UIC comes in sixth place with 20 points as the women's swimming and diving team placed runner-up at the championship and the men's squad finished third, while the volleyball team was second during the regular season and earned a spot in their first #HLVB championship match since 2012. Wright State follows the Flames with 18 points strengthened by its regular season and tournament titles in volleyball as the Raiders went on to earn the first-ever NCAA Tournament win by a Horizon League team.

Cleveland State is in eighth place with 12 points as the men's swimming and diving squad finished in second at the League championship. In addition, Purdue Fort Wayne and Green Bay each earned three points and rounding out the standings are Detroit Mercy and RMU.

Named in honor of James J. McCafferty, who served as the conference's first commissioner from 1979-80, the McCafferty Trophy is awarded annually by the Horizon League to a member institution compiling the greatest number of performance points, based on its finish in the League's 19 championship sports.

For the sports of men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball, points are awarded based on combined regular-season (60 percent) and championship (40 percent) finishes. For all other sports, points are based on performance in the League championships.

Standings are updated after each championship season.
