Mike Porcaro Named To Staff As Volunteer Assistant Coach

Former Panther rejoins program in coaching role

MILWAUKEE – Mike Porcaro has been named volunteer assistant coach with the Milwaukee baseball team, head coach Scott Doffek announced today.

"We couldn't be more excited to get Mike back on campus and in a uniform," Doffek said. "He has a very advanced mind for the game. As a player his instincts were at such a high level.  It's easy to see watching him coach and interact with his players that he has made the transition seamlessly."

Porcaro comes to the Panthers after most recently serving in roles with both the Kenosha Kingfish and Milwaukee School of Engineering.

"He will be a fantastic resource for our program and we are very fortunate to have him," Doffek said.

Porcaro spent the 2016 through 2020 seasons on the staff at MSOE, serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Raiders. He began his four-year stretch as assistant coach, focusing on hitting and infielders, before being elevated to the associate/recruiting role. During his tenure, MSOE broke the school record for wins in a season twice with 24 in 2016 and 25 in 2018. The team also finished .500-or-better in three straight campaigns for the first time since the early 1980's.

This past summer, he was named the second field manager in Kenosha Kingfish team history, leading the way for the Northwoods League program. In a shortened season, he led the squad to a 17-9 overall record.

Porcaro has more Northwoods League experience, having both played and coached in the league. Porcaro played two seasons for the Eau Claire Express (2013-14) and in 2015 he was an assistant coach for the same franchise.

One of just three baseball players to be named All-American in MKE program history, Porcaro closed out a stellar Milwaukee career (2012-2015) with league postseason honors for the third time in 2015. He was named Second-Team All-Horizon League Designated Hitter after spending the large majority of the season as the everyday DH due to injury. He hit .296 on the season, but upped that to .356 in league play, scoring 43 runs, recording 56 hits, 11 doubles, 32 RBI and a .430 on-base percentage.

Porcaro was the 2013 Horizon League Player of the Year, earning Honorable Mention All-American status that season after leading the team and league with a .364 batting average. He became the 11th player to ever record over 200 hits in a Milwaukee uniform, finishing ninth all-time with 215 while also finishing fourth in program history with 143 runs scored. He batted .312 in 192 collegiate games, driving in 117 runs.
