Gannaway, Burton, Merjil Named to All-GLVC Teams; Burton Selected as Freshman of the Year

ROLLA, MO- The Great Lakes Valley Conference has announced their volleyball All-GLVC Teams and among those listed, Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State), Jordan Burton (Olathe, Kansas/Olathe South Senior High), and Hannah Merjil (Bakersfield, CA/Garces Memorial) were named to the First Team and Second Teams while Burton was selected as the GLVC Freshman of the Year.

Gannaway, a senior from Lawrence, Kansas, was a unanimous decision on the First Team with 221 kills this season and 3.30 kills/set. She is currently ranked in the top-five in the GLVC in service aces/set, kills/set, points/set, total attacks, and total kills. Gannaway is also ranked first in the league and DII in total service aces with 38 this season.

Gannaway matched her career high with 21 kills against Rockhurst back in February and recorded seven double-doubles (kills-digs) this season.

Burton, a freshman from Olathe, Kansas, had a breakout season for the Miners with 211 total kills and 3.15 kills/set this season. She found herself ranked in the top-10 in the GLVC in attacks/set, kills/set, points/set, total attacks, and total kills.

In her first season with the Miners, she recorded 14 double-digit kills in a match and had one double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs against UIndy. Her season high came against top-ranked Lewis when she put down 20 kills and got her hands on three blocks.

Merjil, a junior from Bakersfield, Cali., dished out a team best 560 assists in 18 matches played. She is currently ranked 7th in the league in assists/set and 6th in total assists. Along with dishing out the ball, she recorded 31 kills, 17 service aces, 120 digs, and got her hands on 39 blocks this season.

Merjil had a career high 58 assists and seven service aces against UIndy where she also totaled four kills on seven attempts for a .572 hitting percentage. In the very next match against top-ranked Lewis, she recorded a double-double of assists and sigs with 48 and 23, respectively. She tallied 30+ assists in 11 matches this season and averaged 8.00 assists/set.
