This issue's member spotlight is on Kaitlin Rider, IES Raleigh Membership Chair!
|

When did you first hear about the IES and what prompted you to join?
I first heard about IES when I was living in Buffalo, NY and working at the Center for the Performing Arts. When I moved to Raleigh a few years back, I was getting more involved with the lighting community and attended a few small networking events where I met all of the amazing people I work with now which ultimately prompted me to get involved and join.
|
What is the best thing about the Society? Why do you continue to renew?
IES has a rich membership of professionals from different backgrounds, experiences, and careers which excites me. I have served as the membership chair for two terms now and it has been an honor serving alongside these dedicated people, especially with the challenges we faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. |
At what point in your career did you come to understand lighting was the career path for you?
I have a bit of a different career path into lighting as I started in theatrical and entertainment lighting design. I started working on shows backstage when I was in middle school because my sister was my ride home most days and she was the lead in almost every musical with her boisterous personality and remarkable singing voice. Theatrical Lighting just came natural to me and I decided to go to college for a degree in Theatrical Design and Production with a concentration in Lighting Design.
My career has certainly taken me on many new and exciting paths and continues to surprise me. Such as, a new opportunity I am starting in January with SESCO Lighting, INC as their Sales and Lighting Controls Support which I am very much looking forward to. I am excited to bring my knowledge to the SESCO team and continue to serve our community.
When not serving the advancement of the art and science of lighting, how do you like to spend your free time?
I love spending my free time with my family exploring and going on long walks with my two insane dogs, Tulip and Daisy! My husband and I welcomed our first son in January so this year has been so much fun watching him grow up, way too quickly.
You can also usually find me at Unwined on White Yoga Studio, Page 158 Bookstore, Black & White Coffee, and HeyDay Brewing Company! |

Project submitted by Melissa Taylor | Peak Systems Engineering
|
|
Project Description: Phillips Architecture, Peak Systems Engineering, and Barringer Construction were commissioned by Interior Elements to design a space that spoke to the essence of their philosophy, and one that conveyed whom they have grown to be in the market. Through the careful planning of their space and the selection of materials their innovative and dynamic nature is expressed. IE’s showroom in downtown Raleigh symbolizes their commitment to offering cost effective, customer centric furniture and architectural solutions in the Triangle for years to come.
|
|
What was the client's goal for this project? The hybrid space was designed to serve as an office and a showroom that is immediately welcoming and creates an impactful experience from the moment you walk through the door. The goals of this project for the client were to attract and retain talent for their organization while also having a space to entertain and host clientel.
What factors contributed to the success of this project? Client involvement and design team collaboration was evident from beginning of concept through construction. The support of local factory rep agencies was invaluable in finding the products to meet the schedule demands and design intent. In addition to client and design team input, the contractor’s desire to meet the client’s needs above all else was evident in the quality results.
