Webinar: A Proven Tool for Assessing Progress Towards Self-Reliance and Sustainability

RAISE assessment in Kenya

Join The Challenge Initiative (TCI) on 6 October, 2021, at 7am EDT to learn more about its Reflection and Action to Improve Self-reliance and Effectiveness (RAISE) tool. RAISE is being used by TCI-supported local governments across 11 countries to assess the quality and sustainability of their family planning and adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH) interventions.

To date, TCI has engaged 111 local governments with its ‘business unusual’ platform for rapidly scaling high-impact family planning and AYSRH interventions. This webinar will be kicked off by officials from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Bayer AG, TCI’s primary donors. Special guest Larry Cooley, a global expert on scale and sustainability who has reviewed the RAISE tool, will then deliver opening remarks, followed by local government stakeholders who will share their experience using RAISE. Hear how they use RAISE to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of their activities and implementation strength so they can make necessary course corrections. Learn more about the challenges, successes and impact the RAISE tool has had in the field.

Opening remarks from special guest and scale expert Larry Cooley

Founder and President Emeritus of Management Systems International, Larry Cooley has more than 40 years' experience in the fields of strategic management, public sector reform and international development. Currently serving as Board Chair of the Society for International Development and of World Learning, he is the author or co-author of widely used methodologies for managing policy change, scaling innovation, entrepreneurship development and results-based management. Mr. Cooley has served as project director or principal investigator for numerous high-visibility domestic and international public management initiatives and as a facilitator for three Cabinet-level working groups in the United States.

Panelists

Dr. Narendra Kumar Jain

Dr. Jain has been the Additional Chief Medical Officer in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. for the last four years. He is an anesthesiologist and master trainer of mini-lap ligation. He is also District Nodal Officer for Family Planning, RCH, Training and National Health Mission. Dr. Jain has over 20 years of working experience across wide spectrum of public health system.

Madam Dorcas Talatu Abu

Madam Abu is the State Family Planning Coordinator for Niger State’s Primary Health Care Development Agency. She supports reproductive health services, including family planning, integrated maternal and childhood illnesses management, maternal & child health, and adolescent health. Dorcas has provided support for service delivery for over 15 years, building the capacity of over 1,000 health workers to provide FP services.

Jules Coly

Mr. Jules Coly currently serves as the Inspector of Municipal Services in the municipality of Ziguinchor, Senegal, as well as TCI’s focal person there. Prior to that, he was the Director of Internal Control and Audit. He has a degree in Professional University Studies in Economic Management from the University of Dakar Bourguiba in Dakar. As an individual consultant and trainer, he has worked for several NGO structures, projects and local authority.

Florence Solomon

Florence Solomon a registered nurse and midwife working at the Arusha City Council in Tanzania as the Family Planning Coordinator. She coordinates family planning activities in 115 health facilities. In that role, she ensures family planning commodity security checks and provider trainings are done in a timely manner. Florence is one of TCI’s family planning champions in the District.
