The Connection
Issue 14: May 2019

Spring has arrived as an interesting time.  Vermont rainy weather has brought a lot of green but many  of us are awaiting days on end of sun and blue skies.  Our member colleges are graduating students who are interested and ready to enter the next phases of their journeys.  It is bittersweet, as we cherish the learning, growth and departure of these students.  The Green Mountain Higher Education Consortium focuses on programming, services and support for its member institutions, ultimately for the betterment of the student experience.  Easy to forget when we are deep in our day to day work, the impact that so many people involved with GMHEC actually has on that experience.  We wish all the students at our member institutions a very bright future.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Human Resources Update

The summer will bring a new phase for our HCM/HR project: System Integration Testing (SIT).  SIT is defined as the end to end testing of Oracle HCM/HR to verify the "behavior" of the complete system.  We are looking to see if the system is doing what we intend for it to do, both from a functional and technical perspective.

We will test data migration (bringing our old data into the new system). This is a one-time activity for go live. Once the data is in the system at go live, we no longer have to worry about migrations. We will also test integrations, which will continuously move data from our legacy systems (Colleague and Banner) to Oracle, and move some data from Oracle to the legacy systems. For this testing, we will not only include subject matter experts but also some end users for each module.

See below for a demo of the future Oracle HCM/HR system by Kendra Smith, local lead.

Well-Being Updates

Mental Health Awareness Month

When we hear the word health, the first thing that often pops into our minds is physical health but mental health is just as critical to our overall well-being.

So, what does it take to achieve and maintain the highest level of mental health?  Well, first and foremost it takes an ongoing commitment to preventive maintenance.  If we use the example of our car, we know that to keep our car running optimally and to prevent problems down the road we must change the oil, replace our air filters and rotate our tires.  Our mental health is no different.  To be mentally well we’ve got to engage in regular, preventive maintenance.
