Participation in an information session is mandatory before applying for the Case Study in Policy Management Program in Seoul, South Korea, from October 20-28, 2023.

See information about the course and travel to South Korea below. Join for one of two information sessions on Zoom--June 21 or 22 at 5pm. Register on Luma for one of the sessions.

The Seoul, Korea Metropolitan Government (SMG) in partnership with the University of Seoul and UCF has designed the “Case Study: Policy Management in Seoul” program for graduate students in public administration and related fields to experience and understand South Korea's politics, economy and culture during their stay in one of Asia’s largest, most modern, and progressive cities. The program provides a window of opportunity for academic cooperation, and exchange of ideas for the management of the modern mega cities featuring:
 

  • Possible briefing topics: Cultural Policy, City Planning, Municipal Finance, Welfare Policy, e-Government, Seoul’s Green Policy, and Seoul’s new HR Management System

  • Possible field visits: Mapo Recycling Facility, Electric bus (on Mr. Namsan), 120 Dasan Call Center, and Changdok Palace (UENSCO registered)

  • Possible city tour spots: National Museum of Korea, War Memorial, Historical Museum, and Insadong.

Participants will spend approximately 10 days in Seoul and experience numerous presentations and field visits that will enhance one's understanding of Seoul's public administration. Past trips have included visits to (TOPIS, 120 Dasan Call Center, DMC, World Cup Park, Seoul Museum of History, Gwanghwamun Square, Han River Renaissance.
 
Travel Arrangements:
All ground transportation in Korea, lodging (double room), meals, and the program itself are sponsored by SMG. Students will pay only for airfare, regular UCF graduate tuition and fees for the course and a $350 study abroad administrative fee (which will be posted to your student account). Students will need a valid US Passport but there is no visa required for Korea for U.S. citizens.
 
Courses:
Students will register and participate in the Fall 2023 course, PAD6958: Governance Field Study | Metropolitan Governance in Seoul. A full syllabus will be made available.
