Partners in Science

Liberty Science Center’s Partners in Science program takes students beyond textbooks and school-based labs by immersing them in authentic scientific research conducted by professional scientists.

What is Partners in Science?
Partners in Science is an intensive, eight-week summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors that pairs students with mentors in science, health, and technical fields. It exposes them to current questions driving scientific discovery and challenges them to participate in ongoing research and independent projects. Those accepted to Partners in Science receive a $1000 stipend. To receive the stipend, students must have a valid Social Security Number.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Partners in Science program, a student must:

  • Be a rising 11th or 12th by June 2024; AND
  • Be 16 years of age as of July 1, 2024;
  • Be fully available from June 27, 2024 - August 24, 2024;
  • Be up to date on vaccinations for Covid-19;
  • Have a keen interest in science and technology;
  • Possess a maturity level appropriate for a professional lab environment;
  • Return a completed application by 11:59PM EDT Sunday, February 25, 2024
  • Submit Recommendation forms by 11:59PM EDT Sunday, March 10, 2024

Application Requirements

The following items are required to apply to the 2024 Partners in Science Program:

  • Completed online application including a resume;
  • Responses to brief questions and essays (see online application)
  • Recommendation forms filled out by two different references by Sunday, March 10, 2024 (NOTE: upon application submission you will receive the form link to send to your references).

Partners in Science is generously supported by contributions from individuals, foundations, corporations, and other institutions. NJ Industry Partnerships - Life Sciences Panel

Partners in Science applicants and recent alumni are also invited to join a panel discussion on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the different pathways available to enter the life sciences industry, led by the North Jersey Industry Partnerships. The panel will be held on Feb. 9, 2024.
