Hi Everyone
luis.calderon
02:35:05
Have to love those middle of the night IT updates
Will Anglin
02:36:24
I cannot hear the presenter.
Girard, Laura (FHWA)
02:36:45
If you can't hear Scott you likely need to connect your audio
Wes N ODOT
02:44:19
What training do you recommend as a refresher?
Girard, Laura (FHWA)
02:44:47
135095 either in person or vitual
Wes N ODOT
02:44:53
Thanks
Michael Coco (WSP)
02:45:11
A new version of SMS was released just this week! 13.2.12
Wyatt Foley
02:47:42
Do you recommend updating versions over the course of a project, or sticking with the same version for the project duration?
Girard, Laura (FHWA)
02:48:53
Because updates include bug fixes, updates are essential. And always save a back of you're project and reach out to Scott or I if you have issues with a transition.
Wyatt Foley
02:51:47
Thanks!

03:03:01
Soooooo glad this feature was developed!
Micco Emeson
03:03:48
View themes will be helpful for figure creation
Micco Emeson
03:04:17
And yes, contour themes are going to save so much time resetting display options!!!
Madison Rogers
03:04:17
If anyone is familiar with QGIS this seems similar to their theme set up. Great!
campbellbc
03:07:13
Hurray!
Micco Emeson
03:07:17
CAD features are great too. Can you create a cross section centered on the thalweg?
Tad.Skromme
03:07:26
These are very helpful! Thank You!
m.orth
03:07:40
CAD functions are great!
Kyung-Seop Sin (Shin) (Washington State DOT)
03:09:39
Even it is out of the main topic, I have a question about post-processing of SRH-2D. If I obtained field data of flow velocity 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% and I can compare with SRH-2D simulation result, is it okay to use 60% depth data because SRD-2D computes depth averaged velocity.
Ryan Barkie (WSDOT HQ Hydraulics)
03:09:49
I love these updates. They're going to be very useful. I know this is a long shot, but are we any closer to getting an undo function?
Trevor Little
03:10:05
Can you talk more about transitioning old files to the new version?
Caitlyn Spencer
03:10:40
An Undo function would save me a lot of headaches.
Barry Tanaka
03:10:51
how do we access the presentation so we can go to embedded links?
Girard, Laura (FHWA)
03:13:58
Hey Barry, see the file I just uploaded
Caitlyn Spencer
03:14:36
Excellent news, Alan. Thank you!
Ryan Barkie (WSDOT HQ Hydraulics)
03:16:28
Sounds great.
Sulochan Dhungel
03:17:44
Is there a "Select only this layer" tool for annotations? I've had multiple issues where I inadvertently move inactive annotations.
Brad
03:18:55
Comment on the undo feature....An undo feature in SMS would be great, but may not be the same as we are use to in MS Office etc. I worry a little about an undo feature stressing limited processing resources by making stepwise copies of large meshes or map data layers. If the feature is added, it would great if it could toggled on/off or used selectively.
Micco Emeson
03:20:34
Good question. I have had issues with this as well.
Micco Emeson
03:21:16
Re. annotations
Brad
03:23:04
Perfect response. Thank you Scott and Alan!
Micco Emeson
03:23:54
It's when there's overlapping annotations
Micco Emeson
03:24:02
I.e. scale bar and white background behind the scale bar
Micco Emeson
03:24:18
Even when they're on different annotation layers one is usually selected
Sulochan Dhungel
03:24:29
Yes. If it helps, about annotations, I use this version of SMS 13.1.14 (64-bit)Build Date: Sep 11 2021
Alan Zundel
03:25:09
Annotations is one area that has not been seeing a lot of changes in the past year.
Alan Zundel
03:25:50
As Scott said, we can review the current behavior and discuss changes/improvements that may be warranted.
Michael Coco (WSP)
03:30:31
Do you need to take care that the bridge centerline vertices aren't directly on top of your pier location?
Hiram Henry
03:31:05
Scott, FYI, some of us cannot see your cursor, if you're using it to point at details in the presentation.
Alan Zundel
03:31:09
The centerline vertices do not need to lie on the piers.
Caitlyn Spencer
03:34:10
How do I fix this issue where odd triangles get added to the bridge?
Caitlyn Spencer
03:35:33
If you don't have a wall pier, how do you specify the number of side elements? can you?
Alan Zundel
03:36:24
Caitlyn, I you create a bridge footprint coverage and use that in your base mesh generator, you will avoid these issues.
Burke Lokey
03:39:13
does the bridge footprint polygon include the wrapping elements?
lhutter
03:42:00
Have you ever compared the hydraulic results from the old bridge method vs new method?
Caitlyn Spencer
03:42:16
How do you remove those odd triangles if you built the base mesh first?
Caitlyn Spencer
03:43:19
Check my screenshot in the chat for reference
Caitlyn Spencer
03:45:19
I think he covered it
Jake Maybach
03:48:17
That is a great tip. thanks!
Will Anglin
03:48:24
Thanks.
Hanan Fouad
03:48:36
Terrain elevations for the bridge are top of the road elevations, correct? If true, why we create holes for the piers inside the bridge deck?
Lauren Turner
03:48:36
